The regional program of "Innovation for Sustainable Tourism and Services in the South Aegean" (i.e. I.S.T.O.S.) in cooperation with the active participation of Euroxenia, local or private authorities and socioeconomic stakeholders incorporates the vision of the Regional Authority and its residents for a viable development, a sustainable future, result of the harmonious relationship between human and place.
The abbreviation I.S.T.O.S. stands for Innovation for Sustainable Tourism and Services, which is the full title of the program.  It is financed by the E.U program 'Innovative Actions' the main objective of which is the introduction of innovative practices in economic and social development, as a means of eliminating regional disparities within the European territory and providing equal opportunities for the development of activities based on knowledge, new technologies and for the valorization of the opportunities stemming from the new economy. 

Euroxenia is conducting a research for the development and the implementation of sustainable development indicators and the evaluation of the degree to which they can be adapted to the reality of the region, in order to assure their applicability and functionality (Action 1.3).

Sustainable development necessitates planning and the implementation of policies, the success of which highly depends on the diversification of the behavior and the mobilization of local agents, public and private, on an administrative, social and economic level. Indicators of Sustainable development constitute an indispensable tool for the systematic monitoring of the effectiveness of such policies. The objective is the identification of the parameters that need to be monitored and measured systematically in order to estimate the performance of the region towards sustainable development. In order to ensure the effective application of the indicators, a conference under the topic Sustainable Development Indicators on the Regional Level is organized with the participation of the region's Local Authorities and socioeconomic stakeholders.
